Fair Play

Fair Play is a game in which people can explore what it means to be a minority in academic STEMM. As an African American graduate student, players will experience the hardships common to every graduate student, including the stress related to obtaining funding, writing papers on original research, and defining a unique scholarly identity. These experiences are embedded in a rich narrative that encourages players to take on the perspective of the main character. The goal of Fair Play is to raise awareness about people’s implicit racial biases and to challenge players to identify and act on these biases in real-time. What implicit biases do people have? How do they affect one’s academic career? What strategies exist to reduce such biases? These are the kinds of questions at the heart of the game.
