Designer Control and the Role of Space in Augmented Reality Games for Learning

Many examples of augmented reality (AR) games for learning establish both the designed, digital space and the physical space of the player as within the purview of the game designer. While this exertion of designer control may be beneficial for learning in some circumstances, it should not be considered inherent to AR games generally. In fact, it is potentially counter to the very affordances that make mobile technologies most powerful for learning.
