Susan E. Rivers, Ph.D., a social psychologist, is an expert in social and emotional learning and currently is Executive Director and Chief Scientist of iThrive Games. iThrive Games is a nonprofit committed to empowering youth to thrive using great games.
Susan oversees the strategic direction for iThrive Games and fosters the development of programs and a cooperative ecosystem of youth, game developers, researchers, parents, mental health experts, and investors and donors. She uses her expertise in emotional intelligence to enhance the social and emotional well-being of adolescents by accelerating the development and widespread adoption of interactive, evidence-based digital products.
She earned her doctorate at Yale University where she served on the research faculty in the Department of Psychology and co-founded the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence. Her research has been funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, William T. Grant Foundation, Air Force Research Laboratories, Tauck Family Foundation, among other entities.
She is the author of dozens of scholarly articles and several social and emotional learning curricula for preschool through middle school grades, and currently is a Fellow with the Billions Institute’s Leadership for Large-Scale Social Change. She lives and plays games in Newton, MA with her husband and three children.
